a time of loss....

Yesterday, I went out to visit my horse, Tonka. One of his pasture buddies, was down on the ground and wouldn't get up. When a horse goes down, and can't get up, it's highly unlikely they will be able to get up again. After many efforts, including a tractor attempt to pull her up with ropes, it was decided it was best to let her go. It was a huge shock to everyone, as this horse was wonderful, and seemed fine in previous days. We stroked her fur and talked to her all the way to the end.

Today she was buried, and her barn buddies stood in a line, watching, as she was put into the ground. Once the dirt started covering her, they each touched their noses to the dirt, as if paying their last respects.

Her daddy, Randy, is struggling a lot. His horses are like his kids...and Maggie was no different. In fact, Maggie was the best riding horse he had, as he could put anyone on her and they could safely ride. This made it even tougher. To help soothe his pain, I have made a video slideshow of pictures I will also include in a photo book.

Check it out.
